Condom
It is a type of
contraception that protects against the transmission of sexually transmitted
diseases and prevents conception.
In 1850, mass
production of rubber condoms began. Charles Goodyear was an American inventor
and chemist and in 1839 he discovered a way of vulcanizing rubber. He patented
this method in 1844. Another was Thomas Hancock Englishman, who in November
1842 patented vulcanization of rubber. They both started a condom revolution.
The first rubber
condoms were expensive and therefore cleaned. The men had to have a drying
rack, cream and powder for anti-sticking. They were used repeatedly.
In 1880, latex
condoms appeared, which were cheaper and thinner.
In the 19th
century the Catholic Church is against condoms. In the US, in 1868, a campaign
against condoms began, and five years later, Congress banned their sale.
In 1957 the first
lubricated condoms were sold.
Today condoms are
made not only of latex but also of polyethylene or polyurethane. These
materials are intended for people who are allergic to latex. Nowadays there are
not only men's but also women's condoms.
The condom is
wrapped in foil or plastic wrap and is in a coiled form. It is applied to the
tip of the penis and then unfolded on the erect penis to the root. It is
important to leave some space for semen. After using the condom, it is
advisable to make a knot on the condom and throw it in the trash.
Today's condoms
are disposable and made of different materials. Female condoms are used
repeatedly.
The condom can
hold 12 liters of water or 30 liters of air before it breaks. About
8,500,000,000 condoms are used annually in the world. German Jan Vincenz Krause
invented a condom in a spray, but the problem was that the spray dries for
several minutes.
