International Body Piercing Day
It always falls on
June 28 every year.
Body modification
has been used throughout the world for many purposes. It was about
self-expression, ceremonies, values, religious ceremonies. The history of
piercing is not entirely clear, but there are significant indicators that women
and men have practiced since prehistoric times.
Already 5,000
years ago, there is evidence from many cultures where ears and noses were
pierced. It was a way to keep wealth along with the dead in the next life and
to honor them in their burial ground. Language piercing has been well
documented in African and American tribal cultures. Ancient Romans pierced
nipples and genital piercings in ancient India.
Piercing is a
piercing or cutting part of a human body where a hole is created in which
jewelry can be worn or an implant inserted. People do piercings for various
reasons, such as religious, spiritual or self-expression, aesthetic value,
sexual pleasure, adaptation to or against their culture.
Piercing is an
invasive method with some risks, an allergic reaction, infection, excessive
scarring, unexpected physical injuries. Preventive measures such as careful
aftercare, hygiene, clean environment, tool disinfection are an important part
of minimizing the likelihood of serious problems occurring. The healing time
may vary by location.
The woman who has
the most body piercings is Elaine Davidson from Brazil and holds the Guinness
World Record. In 2000 she had 462 piercings and 192 had her around her head and
face. Then, on June 8, 2006, she had 4,225 piercings, and in February 2009 the
Daily Telegraph had 6,005.
The man who has
the most body piercings was in 2009 Luis Antonio Agüero, who, having 230
permanent piercings out of which 175 decorated his face.
Piercing should be
hypoallergenic and stainless steel, niobium and titanium are most commonly
used. Platinum and palladium may also be used. Gold and silver should never be
used for initial piercing because they are mixed with other metals that could
cause allergies. An allergic reaction may arise when a stud or jewel clip is made
of a different metal than the primary piece.
