International Day for Combat Abduction of Slavery

It always falls on December 2 every year.

Slavery is not just history but also the present. According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), there are over 40 million people worldwide who are victims of modern slavery. Modern slavery is a practice like forced labor, debt slavery, forced marriage, and trafficking in human beings. It is exploitation that one can not refuse or leave because of threats, violence, coercion, fraud or abuse of power. More than 150 million children are also subject to child labor. This means about 1 in 10 children worldwide.

The aim is to eradicate current forms of slavery such as trafficking in human beings, sexual exploitation, the worst forms of child labor, forced marriages and forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflicts.
