International Day of People with Disabilities

It always falls on December 3 each year.

This day was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981. Approximately 15% of the world's population lives with some form of disability. About 80% live in developing countries.

People with disabilities generally have a worse health condition, education, less economic opportunities, and a higher poverty rate than people without disabilities. The reason is mainly the lack of services available to them (information and communication technologies), justice, transport and the many obstacles they face in their everyday lives.

The aim is to inform the general public about the problems that people with disabilities face everyday. Throughout the world, various events, conferences, expert discussions and information campaigns on the rights of people with a rightful disability are held this day. It's about realizing that the disabilities live with us and they also have the right to their full-fledged life.

The theme for 2018 is: Strengthening people with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality.
