International Day of the Universe

It always falls on the first Friday of May each year. This year it falls on May 3rd.

In 1997, Lockheed Martin Corporation created this day as a one-day event. The aim was to motivate American youth to study science and mathematics. Former astronaut and senator John Glenn expanded the Day of the Universe on International Day of the Universe in 2001 due to extreme popularity.
