Koronavirus COVID - 19

It is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The virus originated in Chinese Wuhan was spread all over the world.

The beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic is attributed to December 31, 2019. This was the first case reported in the Chinese city of Wu-Chan in Hubei Province.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, shortness of breath, tiredness, dry cough, muscle and joint pain. In chronically ill and elderly or immunocompromised persons, the disease may be more severe and even fatal.

The incubation period is 2-14 days.

COVID-19 is transmitted from person to person in close contact. It is an airborne droplet disease. The mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract and conjunctiva are most commonly affected. A week after the infection, the disease manifests itself by a fever that does not subside. They are accompanied by discomfort, pain in the joints and muscles, and coughing occurs.

The virus penetrates the body through the mucous membranes (mouth, nose and eyes) because we touch the face unconsciously constantly. If a person recovers from COVID-19, then he is immune but not sure for how long.

Treatment is symptomatic and there is no vaccine or medication yet. The vaccine is still under development. There is an antiviral remdesivir from the nucleoside analogue family. It was developed by the American company Gilead Sciences to treat infections that cause Ebola and Marburg viruses and is also effective against other RNA viruses, including coronaviruses. Its effectiveness against COVID-19 is tested.

Prevention is increased hygiene mainly by the hand, preventing contact with other persons, and especially persons with respiratory diseases, avoiding places with higher concentration of people and strengthening immunity. Do not touch the eyes, mouth and nose. Furthermore, it is important not to shake hands with anyone and not to kiss the cheek while greeting. Use of masks, respirators, gloves.

If disposable protective equipment is used, it should be thrown into the trash after use. Products that are reusable must be washed and ironed.

It is important to follow basic hygiene rules, use protective equipment, strengthen immunity (healthy lifestyle) and supply of vitamins. Reduce stress, take time to exercise and get enough sleep.
