Pretzel Day


It always falls on April 26 every year.



In 2003, Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell declared that day to recognize the importance of pretzels in the history and economy of the state.

In the 19th century Dutch immigrants baked pretzels in America. The popularity of pretzels has spread rapidly and in the 20th century mainly in Philadelphia, Chicago and New York.

There are many rumors about pretzel formation.

In the Middle Ages, Catholic monks wanted to use the remnants of dough. They came to pretzel. The dough was in the form of praying hands or a knot that represented the Holy Trinity.

In 610 AD, an Italian monk invented a pretzel and gave it to children as a reward for those who learned their prayers. According to another legend, it originated in a monastery in southern France.

Pretzel is a traditional type of bread spread in Germany, France, Switzerland and the countries of the former Austria-Hungary.

Beer Pretzel Recipe:

 

Ingredients:

250 ml light beer

50g lard

20g yeast (2 teaspoons of dried)

500g semi-coarse flour

10g salt

Put 50 ml of beer into the flour (lukewarm - slightly heated), yeast and let rise. After rising, mix the rest of the raw materials and process. Leave to rise for about 1 hour. Then divide it into 12 pieces and roll out the snake. Create a pretzel, eight or knot and let it rise. Egg whisk and spread out the sprinkled pretzels and sprinkle with caraway, poppy and salt. Put in a preheated oven and bake at 180 ° C for about 15 minutes.
