It always happens on February 13th every year.

This day was unveiled by UNESCO in 2011. For the first time this idea came from the Spanish Radio Academy. Date 13 February was designated by UNESCO, as this was the birthplace of the United Nations in 1946.

Radio is a mass media that addresses the widest circle of people in the world. It is appropriate to address distant communities and vulnerable people (illiterate, disabled, women, youth, the poor) but also offers a platform for intervention in public debate (regardless of the level of education of people). Radio has a strong and specific role in emergency communication and disaster relief. It is recognized as a powerful communication tool and a low cost medium.

Radio is still the most dynamic, engaging and reactive medium. It adapts to changes in the 21st century and offers new ways of participation and interaction.

The aim is to raise public awareness and media awareness of the importance of radio. Efforts to celebrate the importance of radio in improving international cooperation in providing access to information and promoting freedom of expression.

The radio was the only means of communication right next to the press than the TV broadcasting. Radio is still the easiest media available to spread the information to the widest and widest possible audiences in the shortest possible time.
