World Whale Day

It always falls on February 16th every year.

This day was founded in Maui, Hawaii in 1980, as a worship of whales floating on the coast. For centuries, whales have been hunted for meat.

The ban on whaling took effect in 1986, but whales still face several threats. Japan continued to kill whales allegedly for scientific purposes, thereby circumventing the law. But Norway is not the only one, and Iceland is fishing for an endangered species of whales.

The goal is to raise awareness of whales and protect not only their natural home.
